Judge Farrer says: “The background was a relatively short lived relationship between you and your ex partner during which you became controlling, possessive and eventually threatening. She blocked your calls in the early hours of September 5. You were not prepared to accept rejection.

“You went to Robin Hood Cemetery in Shirley knowing she would be there to remember the anniversary of her sister’s death. You concealed yourself in the boot of her car. You waited for her to come back and jumped out and stabbed her in the leg with a kitchen knife.

“It caused a deep wound which bled profusely. Having caused that you proceeded to abuse her, repeatedly punch her, dragged her back to her own vehicle and drove away with her, still threatening her, intermittently punching her.

“You kept her against her will for 24 hours. You always kept possession of the knife and repeatedly threatened to kill or assault her and refused to take her to hospital despite her repeated requests.”
