The evil police officer who strangled Sarah Everard to death after kidnapping her and raping her will spend the rest of his life behind bars.

Wayne Couzens, a serving officer with the Met Police, abducted the 33-year-old marketing executive in London under the guise of a fake arrest during the coronavirus lockdown.

In September, the 48-year-old was handed a whole life order for Miss Everard’s harrowing murder on the evening of March 3.

The Old Bailey heard how Couzens, a married father-of-two, snatched his victim as she walked home from a friend’s house in Clapham, south London, after he had clocked off from a 12-hour shift as a firearms officer at the American embassy just hours earlier.

After using his warrant card and handcuffs to conduct a fake arrest, he drove Miss Everard to a secluded rural area near Dover in Kent, where he parked up and raped her, before strangling her with his belt and setting her body alight.

The judge, Lord Justice Fulford, described how Couzens acted “entirely as normal” following the murder, carrying out “prosaic” tasks, including booking dental appointments for his children and calling the vet about his …….
